The Day of Tea is coming! (ჩაის დღე)

The Day of Tea in Gelati will be held on 21st of September 2014 coorganized by TDDF and Polish Foundation for Sustainable Development

On the 21st of September 2014 second edition of The Day of Tea will be held in immediate surroundings of Gelati monastery complex. The event is organized together by the Polish Foundation for Sustainable Development , Georgian Tkibuli District Development Fund and the Cooperative “New Okriba”, and financed by the grant from RITA program, which is coordinated by the Foundation “Education for Democracy” and Polish-American Freedom Foundation.

The Day of Tea aims to present different varieties of tea, and allow degustation and purchase not only of the superb Tkibuli tea, but also other traditional food and souvenirs from the region. Everything we wish to offer to the visitors will be produced in a natural way by the members of “New Okriba” cooperative, and other small, local manufacturers. The event aims to popularize the region and support initiatives focused on development of small and local entrepreneurship.

During the fair, several accredited guest-houses and agro-tourism households, which are operating in Tkibuli region will be presented, along with a choice of locals products and unique local souvenirs. Guests, who will visit Gelati on that day will be encouraged to taste fresh, ecologically clean, home-made products, without any artificial additives. Black and green tea, chestnut and acacia honey, dairy products (butter, matsoni, Imeretian cottage cheese), red and white wines of Okriba, sweet churchkhela, tkemali sauce, fruits jams, dried fruits, etc.

The Day of Tea will be accompanied by a concert of the folk group “Mandili”. In addition, the local artists will hold demonstrations of preparation of handmade souvenirs and adornments (e.g. rustic bags) with patterns characteristic for Okriba region, which will be later available on sale.

// LOCAL PRODUCTS

Chestnut and acacia honey, dairy articles (butter, matsoni, Imeretian cottage cheese), red and white wines of Okriba, sweet churkchela, tkemali sauce, fruits jams, dried fruits and much more will be available on the fair. 

// LOCAL PRODUCERS

During the September event guest-houses and agro-tourism households, which are available in Tkibuli region, will be fully presented. All the products are produced in a natural way by the members of the cooperative “New Okriba” and other small, local manufacturers from the region.

// ARTISTIC EVENTS

The Day of Tea will be enriched by the concert of the folkloristic group “Mandili”. Local handicraft artists will be preparing the souvenirs and adornments (e.g rustic bags) with patterns characteristic for the Okriba region, which will be later available to buy on the spot.
